This post-secret esque card caught my attention as I was scrolling through my dashboard on Tumblr. It really reminded me of a particular friend of mine who's never really left his home state, and only been to the neighboring states twice in his entire life. I was immediately sadden by this!
Ever since I was a little girl, I was on and off planes and traveling. Being born and raised in Hawaii, the only way to go anywhere is to fly. So from the start, I was very comfortable with planes and airports. My father's family is from the South-East of the U.S while my mom's family is spread all over the world, but most of them reside in the Philippines. I have visited them all at least once.
My friend's life made me wonder how different my life would be if I just stayed in one place all of my life. His view of the world is very narrow, and his assumptions about certain cultures are so out there, that it really shocks me that this twenty-something is so narrow minded. I feel I would a completely different person, and I thank my parents for taking the financial burden of traveling, but giving me the opportunity to see the beautiful world we live in. Even if it's just a part of it.
I feel that traveling to a foreign country at least once in your life can be so life changing. It broadens your view of the world. I'm glad to tell you that my friend is going to Canada next year so his world will be expanded!
